Default Granite in Bath

Are Granite countertops in Master Bath expected in new construction homes in the 500-600K range? Is cultured marble outdated now?

As a frequent fan of the HGTV home shows, I'd say yes, the granite countertops are expected. At the lowest price point, buyers are looking for granite countertops in kitchen and bath.

I put it in my master bath...and my house is in the 300's. I tend to see it in the 600k and up, but not very often below that mark....at least as often as you would expect. As cheap as it was to add it when building, it was a no-brainer for me though.

I am putting it in all of bathrooms in our new home...it is in the 400K range. The cost to put it in instead of the standard marble was very minor, and marble tends to scratch easily....

As I stated in another thread...buyers expect certain upgrades in new homes, priced above $500K.

Yes, in the price point you stated, buyers would expect granite countertops instead of cultured marble. They'd expect brick or stone exteriors, with some fiber cement, no vinyl siding. They'd expect hardwood floors and tile floors, lots of moldings on the first floor, etc.

Of course, no one knows what people will prefer in the future. Will buyers still want granite countertops years from now? I remember when Corian was all that buyers wanted! Should be interesting to see if granite will be replaced with something else!

That it will happen is just about guaranteed. The only question is when.
