My family and I will be relocating from WNY to Charlotte or the Raleigh area to be closer to family. Have performed a lot of research in both areas plus have friends in each area. We are visiting each area next summer. Each area is unique but I know where ever I land a job is where we're going to end up.

I'm in the Engineering, utility construction field with safety and my wife is a NYS certified teacher with her Masters. I know every where the market is down. I don't want to make the move until I have secured a job because of having a family. I have heard people say because they are not local it has been difficult to obtain an interview. In my cover letter I have made it kown that I am relocating at my own expense and that I would be available throughout the hiring process with reasonable notification.

How is the Engineering/utility/safety field in the Charlotte and/or Raleigh areas? Any thoughts or advice about receuiters/headhunters?

I heard "engineering" was one of the few fields where there were jobs. (The medical field was the other one.) Unfortunately, I don't know what type of engineering. Check Indeed.com (sign up for alerts) and Google recruiters and call them up. If they are looking for engineers, I'm sure they'd talk to you.
