Hello all!

I am very new to this. My family and I are looking to relocate to NC from NY in the summer of 2008. I have lived in New York all of my life. We have three children, ages 16, 12, and 6 months. We have relatives in Winston- Salem, however, we are trying to find areas that have jobs in both our fields. My husband is a Systems Technician (Voice and Data) and I am in Human Resources (recruiter).

We want a change of pace and are ready for the a house in the suburbs. Since we now have a baby (after 12 years), we want a family/children friendly neighborhood with excellent schools. We are use to commuting, so we wouldn't mind that... We have an idea of some areas in Greensboro(thanks to so many of you guys posting the zip codes) we need help in looking at some areas in Raleigh.

HELP!!!! We are totally clueless when it comes to the Raleigh area. Can anyone give us some suggestions?

There are so many good areas around Raleigh....with good schools....it would be hard to toss out a few names. What is your price range, where do you think you may be working? Are you looking for something truely a bedroom community only, or something closer to stores and nightlife?

I would not mind a bedroom community as my husband and I are not into the night club scene. I would like to be close to a mall or shopping area, maybe 10-12 miles or so. We are looking to spend around 200k- 220k the most. I don't know where I will work. My husband will need to find work first and I can temp if anything. Can you provide me with some areas and their zip codes?

Zip codes are not going to mean anything in this area....you can have great neighborhoods and less then good ones all in the same zip code.

For that price range for the size you'll probably want with that number of children, you are looking at outlaying areas of Raleigh most likely......I'd look through the threads here about Apex, Holly Springs....you might find some things in Wake Forest, Rolesville.....but if you shop carefully, you could probably find something in just about any area though.

Are you going to be able to plan a trip to the area before you have to make up your mind?

Thanks for the info about the zip codes.. did not know that. I am going to look into the areas that you have mentioned.

Yes, we are planning to come down this summer. I have been communicating with a relocation specialist from Fonville Morisy Reality. Are you familiar with them? Also, we are looking for 4 bedrooms... can we find nice houses in our price range? 200k-220K

It won't be impossible, it it will take some looking depending on what else you want in a home and lot size.

For example there are 8 homes in Wake Forest you could look at in that price range on www.realtor.com....most (broken link) have smaller (.2 to .3 ) lot sizes.

check into Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, or Rolesville. Lots of homes in that price range.

I'd personally don't like greensboro and think Raleigh/Durham area is much nicer but that's just my opinion.

I have been looking into Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina....very nice so far. If you don't mind me asking...what it is that you don't like about Greensboro.
