I wish I had an answer for ya...I technically don't have a General Practice doc. When I'm sick, need a physical, checkup, etc...I go to Prompt Med off Six Forks...about 4 miles south of 540. I've been there twice (including yesterday with my strep throat) and they are fantastic! Benefits...very clean facility, no wait times (i've been the only one in there both times...not sure if that's bad), no appt necessary, and I'll get to the doctors in a bit. The only downside it's not really a family practice, if that's what you're looking for...it's an urgent care facility. But there's barely ever a wait and the nursing staff have been able to get me in a room within 5 minutes.
The doctors...I've seen two of them. I didn't catch the name of the first guy, but he was superb. The one I saw yesterday was Dr. Klinkner...reading his bio, he actually was a head medical consultant for the movie Patch Adams. I didn't get to ask him too much about that since my throat was swollen pretty good. But, he's very nice. Saw that I was in pain and gave me what I needed right away to alleviate the pain. Really informative too.
I called them today to confirm the dosage of my amoxicillin because I thought the bottle was incorrect. I left them a message with my problem and name/number. The nurse called me back with an answer in 5 minutes.
Also, and I don't wanna come off sounding like a pig or whatever you wanna call it...but I've had some doctors that are relatively good, but you can barely understand a word they're saying and/or they just treat you like a "patient" that he has to see in order to get the day through. My allergist was like this...he was indian or something. I could barely understand what he was saying half the time and every time he wanted to see me was this big sales pitch for the allergy shot, which I couldn't find time for. Bottom line, I believe this facility is comprised of all American born doctors. I hate to make it sound like that since I'm lumping all foreign doctors as incoherent idiots (which I'm not)...but I always make sure I've got a good english sounding name when I search for doctors.
It might not be what you're looking for...but it's a place I'd recommend regardless.

Not sure whereabouts you are specifically looking, but Duke Medicine just opened a brand new facility in Brier Creek with primary care, urgent care, OB/Gyn, and some other specialty stuff I think too.

Raleigh Family Practice on Lake Boone Trail
We lived in Raleigh nine years before we found them. We have been very happy with them for the last year and half. They have three doctors and three PAs. My husband and I are happy with the PAs. They operate under the care of one of the doctors. I wasn't surprised to recently learn that they were voted best practice for 2008 in Raleigh. The doctors actually communicate with one another, if you see more than one doctor. They have an in house lab, and they now use a "patient portal" whereby you can sign in and communicate with your doctor, and retrieve test results online. We love everything about this practice. I should add, that we feel the doctors are very friendly, attentive and thorough. Hope that helps!

Try Wake Internal Medicine. (I've been going there as I needed a GP starting this year). Their main office is off of Blue Ridge Rd http://www.wakeinternalmedicine.com/ . They also has a satellite office of Durant and a walk-in urgent care center in the same building off of Blue Ridge.
