Do you have anything in writing where your new landlord agrees to a tenancy 'start date??? If so, then you have a good case to claim reinbursement of costs for other accomadation to that date.

Right, but that would immediately be overruled by any clause that gives the lessor the right to change move-in dates due to unforeseen circumstances.

Sowk and Saturn, I agree, transferring a resident to a different unit that will be ready on time is always the first course of action-if one is available. The OP is moving to Chapel Hill in August-highly unlikely that anything else is available or I would imagine the community would have already offered that to her.

I would say there is a lesson to be learned here.....Read the small print....make sure an agreement is read thoroughly that way any concerns can be addressed at the time of signing. Before entering into any agreement, buying, renting, leasing make sure you are armed with ALL the questions you need covering for EVERY eventuality.....
