Default Raleigh Police Department

Hello All,

I'm a police officer from a large department in South Florida and I'm looking to make the big move to NC early next year. I'd like to get on with the Raleigh Police Department. Is anyone a police officer with Raleigh or knows someone who is? Has anyone worked with them? Is city politics regarding the police positive or negative? Is the pay (starting in the mid 30's) reasonable to be able to purchase a home?

Thanks a lot

Not being a police officer, I cannot address all of your question, but as an long-time active citizen of Raleigh, I can tell you that city politics regarding the police department is very good. We have an excellent police department that is very well respected by the citizens and officials of the city. Our police officers are intelligent, well-trained, and well-equipped. The Department is very innovative and effective, and as a result we have a very low crime rate.

Pay for a recruit starts at $32,166, and an officer can earn up to 5% merit increase per year, plus a cost of living increase. There is a lot of good information on the City’s web site at www.raleighnc.gov. Click on Departments, then Police, then “How to join the Raleigh Police Department.”

There is a Raleigh policeman who frequents this board. He may see your post and offer some insight. Good luck!
