Default Good reasonable place to buy a youth sized desk?

Seeing as how we are in Furniture Country, it occurred to me that I might have options other than Pottery Barn Kid$ and Target for a desk for my 6 year old. She desperately wants a desk for her birthday next month and I'd like to get one scaled to her size. Has anyone been in the market for this lately and found one locally and of decent quality (I'd like to avoid particle board and MDF where possible)?

Depends what "decent quality" means and what you're willing to spend. I've been shopping myself and saw some decent looking ones listed online at places like OfficeMax and Staples and not just particle board stuff. I'd start there.

IKEA in Charlotte. Just got a great desk from there for a great bargain. You can browse pretty much their entire catalog online at ikea.com.

I got an awesome one at an auction, solid wood, antique, little cubbies and all. I'm sure we paid less than Pottery Barn. You may not have time or the desire to go to auctions but you could check out antique shops and also look on craigslist. Good luck!

I would find one that is solid wood off Craigslist for
25 to 50 dollars and sand and paint it pink for her.

Thank you so much, everyone! Great ideas, all of them--I'm going to explore ikea and craigslist and antiques stores--I didn't even think of that--and she's obsessed with little items and little cubbies to put them in. I'm really hoping to find a great little desk!
