Silver Lake on Tryon Rd.
Does anyone have any opinions on Silver Lake. We drove by it today and the kids wanted to go, but I thought I would see if it's really worth it...

The owner sold the land to M/I Homes. They will be building townhouses. Across the lake is M/I's single family homes. The neighborhood is called Silver Lake.
They will get rid of the "toys" in the lake but will keep the lake, just not for swimming.
I recently sold a home in Silver Lake and that is what the onsite agent told us.

That's a shame. Now, they have to open an actual waterpark in Raleigh. LOL

It has been there for a very long time. I can remember taking my kids when they were younger and there was NOTHING much around it.
I'm sure the seller got some good money for that land!

I remember when the lake was empty. The dam burst in Hurricane Fran and all the water ran out! I was living in Walnut Creek Apts at the time. Fortunately, my apt was above the floodline. I remember that some of the apts up the street at the intersection of Avent Ferry and Lake Dam did flood.
I'm glad I moved when I did (1997), before all that construction started. Too much traffic for me! It sure was close to work, though.

Once they cleared the trees on the other side of the lake, it was all over. I remember going there every summer when I was a kid. It's a shame they're getting rid of it.
