Is it true that Johnston County has stopped issuing new construction permits?
Our neighbors were saying that Johnston County has stopped issuing residential new construction permits to builders in order to reduce the inventory of new homes available for sale. I am unable to validate this information on the Johnston County website or anywhere else on the Internet. Can anyone confirm if this is true and provide me with a link to some additional information? I'm not looking to build, I just need the information. Thanks!

I have not heard this before and will be shocked if it turns out to be true.

I am with the previous poster and would find that hard to believe. What would they expect the builders to do with people that want to build a home?
I would call Johnson County directly and just ask to get the correct answer to your question.

I have left a message for the building permit office, twice this week. I had heard that they were still issuing permits for new builds with a purchaser, so that they could still build if there was a person that wanted a home built. But that they could not build inventory homes. Oh, and I sent an email to my realtor this morning to see if she had heard anything. I'll update if I find out anything first. I'm surprised that I heard this information from several people, both inside and outside JoCo, and yet it doesn't look to be true.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Still no word from the county, but my realtor was kind enough to fill me in on the real deal. Apparently it was disclosed that there MIGHT be a moritorium on building permits in order to reduce inventory, but it has NOT happened in Johnston County.

FWIW, I doubt this is true as well.
BTW, even if they stopped issuing permits today there are probably enough permits already approved on the books for yet to be built homes that new construction would continue for quite some time.

If there ever was a "moritorium on building permits", I can't imagine that would stop a pre sale.
