Was looking at a couple of new home communites that had garages that were 19 x 20ft. For some reason I thought the standard was 20 x 23 ft. If you have a 19 x 20 garage, are you able to open your car doors comfortably with 2 cars parked in the garage. Just by looking at the garage, it appeared super tiny. We don't have big cars or anything, but it still doesn't appear that we could fit two cars with some breathing room in a 19 x 20ft garage?

My Apex house had an oversized garage - 20'8" x 23'4". It was great! Unfortunately my current house has a 1-car garage that barely (and I do mean BARELY!) fits a small car. I should measure it when I get home just for laughs!

19x20 is a 4 car garage.
4 Smart cars...

It is a common size, and, Yes, it sure is tight.
We have one, and my wife's Focus takes up half of it.
My pickup and Edge sit in the driveway.

We have a 20x24 garage and it's considered oversized. We can park two vehicles adequately, but it's not roomy. When we had a 19X20 there was no way to fit our minivan and sedan in there together.

we have a 20x25ft. garage and it holds a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and a Mercedes SUV with plenty of room for useless junk.
It would probably hold a suburban or similar, but we have junk everywhere taking up space.
(A yukonxl denali and hyundai santa fe stay outside)
So a 19x20 might hold 2 small cars.

We had the hardest time finding anything over a 20'x20' garage. I wanted a garage workshop and we wanted to also fit in 2 family sedans. We ended up changing our search to include houses with 3-car garages, and ended up buying a house with two 2-car garages (one attached and one detached).

Garages on newer homes built over the past 10 years or so seem to have gotten smaller.

Mine is 21.5' x 20.5'. Enough room for my Volvo wagon and Jetta sedan. I think it's more about organization. We see people in our neighborhood with both cars outside because either they've filled up their garage with stuff or they don't have it organized in there and just have it spread out. Over the fall I'm actually going to go to a pegboard setup and make a bunch of shelves and cabinets. I hope to only have my air compressor on the floor once that is done.

Buy an older home and your double garage will surely be larger.

Our old Cary garage was this size. We could fit an Odyssey and a Pilot along with kids' bikes and a Big Wheel, garbage can, etc. We added a lot of shelving. It was tight and when we sold several potential buyers mentioned it as a deal breaker.
