I have to go to a wedding in Chapel Hill in early June. The family has reserved a block of rooms but they are too expensive for me. Does anyone have any suggestions?
When we had our wedding, the Red roof inn on the corner of I-40 and 15-501 was the cheapest we found for people, around $45 (no one stayed there). The best western on US 54, and the Days Inn and Hampton Inns were in the $70-80 range. All are decent. We put people up at the LaQuinta in Durham, which is about 6 miles from UNC, and everyone like this alot, and our group rate was around $90. One benefit of the best western, days and hampton are that each is close to a bus line (which is free) if you are not renting a car.
We just stayed at the Hilton North Raleigh for $63 (after taxes, etc). We submitted a price of $40, which didn't match. Priceline asked us to "up" it to $52 and try again. We did, and got the above price.
May be tougher during higher season but we stayed about 1 week ago and worked great . . .
You can also specify "2 star" hotels so should be able to get an even cheaper deal (we wanted a nicer place though).
