and for the locals...the first news I remember local NBC having was in the mid 80s!?!(somebody correct me if I'm wrong)...so they were already in 'tune' with WRAL and WTVD.

All unscientific of course

I have the same problem. Where I come from, the anchors are always very professional, don't get confuse reading the news and are very sharp looking. Here in CLT is mainly kids out of school or seniors ready to retire. I guess I am superficial, but I like to look at pretty people if I am watching the news.

ABC11 which is ch. 211 in HD on my box or 9 for regular...I really don't watch, but put it on in the morning to hear what's going on, while getting dressed, eating breakfast, etc.

I will watch the world news at 6:30 with Charles Gibson on ABC11, other than that, I read CNN.com, Weather.com for weather, etc... WRAL website sometimes, but I am not a fan of WRAL, even the radio morning show, they get on my nerves! LOL I am not a big fan of local news here...News 14, forget about it, that's a train wreck in my opinion...

I like ABC 11 news. Their broadcast comes in crystal clear on my high def tv. Although I must admit it drives me a little nuts that they start every evening by saying "we have breaking news to report" and then they go on to report some mundane event like a fender bender in some county that isn't even in the Triangle. I also don't care for ther "breaking news center" which essentially is a reporter standing next to a flat screen TV about 8 feet away from the anchor desk.

NBC 17 does not come in HD on my tv for some reason. The graphics on NBC 17 look very dated and I dislike their catch phrases like "Here are the fast facts:". It makes me feel like they are listing the news, not reporting it. Ultimately it is the poor quality of the picture that drives me away from that news broadcast.

I am not a big fan of WRAL news. While the HD signal comes in strong the set looks very grey and dated. I feel like I am watching news in 1980.

News 14 is the strangest news of all. The lighting on that show make all the people look like they are made of plastic. I almost never watch that station.

Ultimately all of the news stations drive me a little batty with how much time they dedicate to talking about the weather on a typical day. It seems like they really stretch it out to fill up the air time.

FWIW, I find it midly depressing that people gauge which station they watch based on the physical apperance of the anchor. I think that judging a news program by that metric says more about the viewer than it does about the quality of the news program.

Teleprompter in Chief is on a distinguished road
WRAL evening news all the way. They are the most professional, the best looking set and are always the first with everything. If you Google the best Raleigh news network, you will find all the accolades they receive. They are nationally recognized as one of the best news organizations in the country.

There are reasons why WRAL is the single most popular news source around.

We do watch ABC11 in the morning when we want to laugh at a grade school outfit.

NBC17 isn't even worth my time to type. STOP

All the anchors look fine to me and do a great job. (The last truly sexy newsman was Peter Jennings; I met him once at a conference. Sighhhhhh.)

I prefer 11 (WTVD) news except when I hear the term "breaking news" 20 times in one newscast. But my husband makes me switch it to 5 (WRAL) because my husband LOVES Greg Fishel. We must watch Fish every single day. (I just want to know if it'll be hot or if it'll rain the next day, that's it. The rest is meaningless to me.)

I like WRAL. I guess you can't blame a technical snafu on someone being confused though.

I watch WRAL mostly because I got used to them....because I used to watch a lot of CBS shows at night so that is what the tv was tuned to by default in the morning.

But then again....I actually watch/listen to know what is going on....I don't give two hoots what the people look like.

Me neither -- unless it's a face only a mother can love

I like WRAL's Tar Heel Traveler and 5 on your side

News 14 is the worst. It looks so low budget. But I noticed they don't have Dan Eaton on the cooking segment anymore
