Does anyone know of any animal shelters or breeders that need or use teenagers as volunteers? Looking for one for my kiddos. Thanks!

How old is your teenager? I know you need an adult to volunteer with you at the Wake SPCA if you are 17 and under.

What area are you in, it would help to know so I could narrow down the rescues to your specific area. I am sure lots of rescues would be dying to get some more volunteer help.

I am in Holly Springs and my kids are 15,13 and 11. School is starting soon, so I am hoping to find someplace they can come in once or twice a week after school to help with the animals. They are all animal lovers and are very good with them. Thanks!

These are a few places I would contact to see if they would have some opportunities for your children to volunteer, I'm sure any organization would be grateful for the extra help and it would be a wonderful opportunity for your kids

Another option would be to become a foster family for a dog or cat, and that could be a big learning and volunteer opportunity as well.

Wake County Animal Shelter Volunteer Opportunities:
WakeGOV.com - Volunteer Teams

They do cat care from 6:30-8:30 every night (clean boxes, clean cages, feed, etc)
Second Chance Pet Adoptions: Second Chance Pet Adoptions. Adopt a cat or dog at our shelter in Raleigh.

If you have the time to do the volunteer work with them, you can try here but I believe you can only supervise one child at a time.

Although too far for the OP, others may be interested to know that the Orange County Animal Shelter also has volunteer opportunities. (Some high schoolers volunteer there to meet their service credit requirement.)

Just went to the SPCA volunteer training/orientation. Very Nice Facility. Very Cute Animals...they have so many programs for dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and even bunnies. There is probably a ratio and you couldn't bring them all at one time, but check it out.

Your kids will enjoy it.

Animal Protection Society of Durham » Volunteer

They state they have limited options for below 18s, and they must have an adult present... good luck, the shelters could certainly use the help!

I know this is an old thread but hoping to revive it with more current opportunities. My daughter and her friend are 15 yo and looking for a place to volunteer with dogs. We are near Garner.
