On a new build, who/what determines the tax appraisal value? There's a property I've looked at--it seems to have originally been listed close to $700k and is now down to $600k (seems to have been on the market over a year). Its tax value is listed about $850k. On which amount would a person be paying taxes--the actual amount of its purchase or that very high, original appraisal?

Thanks,
Tab

I believe you only pay the actual tax value.

So what is the actual tax value......hopefully what you pay for it?

Thanks.

You'd pay the tax value, but you may be able to have it changed when you buy the house

Thanks, coltank. I doubt we make an offer on the house (too much airplane noise), but the taxes--if they couldn't be adjusted to purchase price--would be about $130 more a month.
