Pictures - Grandale
We took tons of pics during our stay. This was the first area that we visited, located in SW Durham. Beautiful homes, nicely priced from upper 300's to 500's.
This one was tucked away in a cul de sac. Nice long driveway w/ a good sized lot that backs into the treeline.
A cluster of homes at the end of the street with different designs which is nice. They look kinda close together, from afar, but they've actually got nice sized lots. There's lots of room between the homes.
I like the circular design on one end of the house.
Interior shots:
*Disclaimer: The last two pics are of the model home, so they have all of the upgrades and fancy designs put in.

The kitchen and bathroom are to die for. I can't get over how gorgeous they are. If only I could find something like that in my price range in Chapel Hill.

We visited Grandale this past summer. That kitchen is in the 750K model if my memory serves me. But that house was so big that it felt like 2 families could live there. And the 3rd floor media room was amazing. I really did like those homes. But we decided that we did not want to build (too many decisions for us at one time).
Thanks for posting the photos.
As for location... Grandale is a Centex development... if you go to their website you can see how close to Southpointe it is. It felt close to me. Grandale is the development East of Fairfield SD off Herndon Road. The Grandale streets don't register on Google Maps yet. But basically the plan is to connect Grandale and Fairfield via Fenwick Pkwy which you can see on Google Maps now.

Housing value
I am wondering if you get more for your money in this area versus Cary, North Raleigh, etc. Thoughts?

Yeah...my thoughts exactly. But keep in mind that those pics were of the model home, professionally decorated and shown w/ all the upgrades that you could possibly imagine, so they don't fall into the price range that the builders advertise. Still nice to look at though...
We also looked at the inventory homes that they had, going for low to mid 400's, and the kitchen and baths were gorgeous as well. Granite all over the place, nice tile work, trims, cabinets and fixtures.

More for your money...definitely! I think that's a really big draw for most people, us included. It's in a part of Durham where the commute, schools, ammenities are pretty good.

The exteriors look ver similar to some of the Dansforth homes in Wake Forest which I believe are also Centex. I recall seeing one almost exactly like that one if your first picture. The inventory houses I personally viewed were visibly nice in and out. Lots of hard woods, spacious but still individual rooms, great kitchens. I loved the exteriors which always have some little fanciness to them with the slight arches instead of boring squared edges to everything.
However, I thought some of the quality was lacking. Gutters leaked all over the place. It looked like they weren't caulked at the ends. The front porch was poured cement and retained a lot of standing water after a rain. It wasn't pitched correctly or wasn't totally flat or something. Not bashing Centex BTW, just sharing my observations.

Grandale is actually really close to Southpoint. I would say 2 miles max. It's a great location for getting to RTP as well. It does sit behind a large, much older neighborhood (drawing a blank on the name) that in my opinion has some houses that aren't taken care of very well. You won't see it from Grandale but you would pass through there on the way to RTP. The neighborhood itself is very nice.
