In my opinion, there is a huge difference in the two clubs based on the fact that Brier Creek is private. At the private club, you will have much, much more member amenities. While Heritage is one of the best semi- private clubs in the area, it is still a daily fee golf course.
Having said that, I do believe that Brier Creek is the least appealing of the private clubs in the area. It has a very nice golf course, facilities, and decent member activities; however, it doesn't have the total package in line with the premiere clubs in the area such as Carolina CC, North Ridge CC, Prestonwood, and McGregor Downs.

Vicki - do you mind if i ask what you meant by overrated? in what way? just curious....thanks again

Traffic here does not compare to driving on the LIE at 5:30 pm from exit 49 to ext 62,[ which I did for 10 plus years ] traffic here is just different, yes there are alot of cars on the road here but it moves. Sure there are parts of roads we hate but it just not the same as LI, Queens etc. I find myself driving 25 plus miles to go to some stores just because its not a big deal. In NY I hated going 2 miles to Pathmark. One thing on home construction ask if the home is stick build or prefab, I looked at a home here and I had to sign a waiver that I would not have more that 500 lb in my attic, we ran out of that model home quickly, and purchased a home for St. Lawrence homes, solid construction and built to last very happy.

The reason I think Brier Creek is over rated is that I think that tract builder charges alot for what you get. I'm much rather have a custom builder in Heritage. That is my opinion.
As for the shopping, of course there is much more shopping in Brier Creek than Heritage. But again, I thought we were talking houses.

I was responding with *my* feeling about the homey part rather than the overrated comment (especially since that debate has been hashed out repeatedly here). Again, I know you know the difference and while you may have been speaking specifically about the houses, often other people refer to Brier Creek as a whole, with feelings encompassing the country club, the shopping areas on both sides of 70, and the apartments etc. For me I consider the shopping and surrounding areas fairly congested while I think the actual country club is much different.
A person considering the region who doesn't know the difference might hear comments directed toward the area as a whole and not be able to discern the difference between someone speaking about the entire area and one who is speaking about the country club. There are a lot of people who know the shopping experience and will give advice based on that, while NOT knowing the actual country club experience which you an agent might know, as well as others here who have actually bought or considered buying there.

I've never considered a shopping center "homey", no matter where it is.
Interesting perception.

I don't think anyone would consider a shopping area homey...
You've lost me, but no explanation is required.
Let me rephrase my point in a manner that has nothing to do with you prior posts. To anyone considering the Brier Creek COUNTRY CLUB: When you're looking for advice about the country club (especially on this forum) you may want to clarify the that the particular advice you are hearing is based on knowledge of the actual country club rather than the area as a whole. Some people refer to Brier Creek and have in mind the shopping center or surrounding neighborhoods while having know real knowledge about the lifestyle inside the country club.

I haven't seen the other clubs, but I wasn't that impressed with the Brier Creek club. Yes, the golf course is designed by Arnold Palmer, which I guess is nice. But, in the clubhouse they closed the more formal dining room upstairs and only use it for social events. You have to eat in the restaurant downstairs which doesn't have a country club feel at all. I don't want a stuffy environment, but what's wrong with wanting to eat in a nice restaurant? I also didn't like that Toll Brothers is building like crazy, and everyone in a Toll Brothers property in BC gets access to the clubhouse and/or golf course, assuming they pay for it. I was a little annoyed to find out that someone in an apartment or townhome at the BC country club would pay less for initiation fees than I would as a home owner.

I never heard or knew this but you're saying the initiation fee is less for someone in the townhomes (villas)? That is odd if true I would think they are the same. I don't know much about what is currently being built on the other side of the parkway, but I know there are some apartments on the side of the country club which would appear to be one in the same but they are not.

Yes, I've been given Brier Creek golf club price lists for both home owners and townhome/condo owners. I don't know if the Toll Brothers complex is rental apartments or condos, but initiation price is $4,000 more for home owners than for owners of townhome/apt/condos.

I should have clarified my request for information. I did mean specifically the Brier Creek Country Club. We spent about four hours touring the clubhouse, pool, golf course, grounds, homes, etc. and thought the place was terrific. We also had lunch in the shopping center across the street and found that enjoyable as well. I guess since we are from Long Island, every other place seems less congested and crowded. Heritage was wonderful as well, however i am getting the feeling it might be a tough commute (relatively speaking) to the RTP. We are making a second trip down this fall to explore Cary. Anyone know anything about the McGregor Downs Club?

Glad you enjoyed it. MacGregor is great as well, and you'll like the housing choices even more I am guessing. The commute will be longer to RTP than from Brier Creek but not as bad as Heritage. There is dining and shopping across the street basically but you can drive another few minutes to a place called Beaver Creek Commons which has even more shopping etc. than the shops at Brier Creek. I would also say you should really visit Preston in Cary. Your commute to RTP would be really easy from there, you can just hop on Davis Dr. and there is ample dining and shopping nearby. The trip to Beaver Creek is easy from there as well < 10 minutes. Happy hunting!
