Smile Mortgage Loan Officer looking to move

I,m a loan officer in michigan looking to move to the Triangle. From this forum it appears the housing market is still going strong in N.C. That's not the case in the Detroit area. Can anyone give me some advice about the job market and licensing requirements. Anyone who moved from Michgan willing to compare/contrast. Thanks

I'm from MI originally and NC is a great state with tons of potential. Are you already lined up with a job as a Loan Officer?

I am a branch manager of a Mortgage Banker/Broker in Cary, NC. My corporate office is based out of MI and from the looks of it our market is far more stable right now. The average home price is not as great as in some other markets (not sure how Detroit ranks).

There is a lot of potential still with a lot of people relocating becuase of the relatively solid job market, affordable housing and cost of living. There are also great outdoor activities and education systems. FTHB growth is also strong, so it is a mix of local and out of state buyers.

Licensing does require a few steps and work but is not too tedious. It requires coursework, an exam and then a background/credit screening. Soon these will be national standards however, NC has been ahead of the curve. The total cost of course, exam and test will probably be ~$500-750 depending on the course you take.

Default Loan Officer Questions.

Hello. I came across this thread while checking on North Carolina's loan officer requirements. I currently have my real estate license in escrow in Michigan and am looking to relocate to North Carolina. Originally I wanted to sell real estate in NC but a career as a loan officer sounds intriguing as well. Do you necessarily have to possess a college degree to be a loan officer in North Carolina? Are there a decent amount of openings in that field there?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dave

Alot has changed since this posted. The market has lost alot of speed and migration has slowed making it a challenging enviroment with all the agents and lenders having to work harder to make a buck. While the market here has not crashed it is it is not growing like a year ago and the near future could go either way.
