We've been members at Lifetime and joined while there was still just a trailor in the parking lot. Couldn't be happier with the gym.
I'm not sure what the swim lessons reference is because I can't get the link to work. My kids have done the swim assessment there and then were referred to a specific level for lessons and they did very well in them. They can all swim the crawl stroke (except for my 4 year old, his class was just an introduction to the water...but he can go underwater now and hold his breath!). They took lessons last spring so maybe something has changed??
The gym is very family friendly which is why we like it though. Childcare is great and that was our number one reason for joining.
I didn't say that Lifetime wasn't nice; I said it wasn't a great value (which the original poster is looking for). Lifetime is the most expensive gym in the area.
I find Lifetime worth every penny. No contracts, I got in with no enrollment fee either (watch for the specials). The gym is obviously very nice, clean, well managed, and family oriented. It has frills I don't use, but they are nice to have if I am ever so inclined. I have been a member of cheap gyms, worked for Spa Health Clubs in my youth and realized you get what you pay for. If you just want to pump iron it may not be the cost-effective solution, but if you are looking for activities and choices it has it all.
