Knightdale,NC
Does anyone recommend a nice, safe, family community in or near Knightdale. I have been looking on realtor.com and there are several homes there in my price range in different developments.

I don't know names of communities, but I do know that my sister built a house in Knightdale 4 1/2 years ago. Since then the new highway opened up. Lots of new stores/growth. Her homes value has increased singnificantly!
It's a nice area. Away from the 'city' of Raleigh, yet still close enough!

You should look at Churchill, being built by Centex off of Old Faison Road. Homes currently start in the 170's and still in first phase - but rapidly approaching second phase. Great layouts, great neighborhood layout with pool, walking trails, fields and tot lots. Friendly community - we haven't even moved in yet, but are already very friendly with our new neighbors - having dinner and drinks together every now and again. I think the end result (both home and community) will be pretty spectacular.

I'm not trying to alarm you but be careful when chosing a neighborhood in Knightdale.

I think Planters Walk is still the best bet in Knightdale. The development has larger lots with established trees. The homes are a little older but still nice. Churchill is ok if you don't mind the concept of mass grading (no trees) with several hundred homes that appear to have "fallen from the sky". The cost per square foot is comparibly lower but the quaility of construction is so so. Princeton Manor offers the nicest new custom homes but you can't get anything under 350k. Very well built but pricey. Stay away from Emerald Point and Parkside. On the surface they look ok but the PD gets a lot of calls to these areas. The schools in general are ok but not great. This should change as more higher end neighborhoods spring up.

I don't know how much is 'over reacting' and how much is legitimate concern (it's probably some of each)...but Knightdale seems very restrictive when it comes to things like teen curfews and such due to gang problems.
I do know, that Knightdale High is not one of the better high schools in Wake County, and at one point, parents had to be offered options to transfer out of it. (Not sure if that is still in effect.)

Try looking in Hedingham Golf and Athletic Club. Townhouses, single family homes, pools, tennis etc. The prices are reasonable. I moved here 2 years ago from So. Caliifornia, am a single mother of 2 daughters and we have had no problems here at all. love it!

I have lived in Knightdale for 16 years now and love it, especially with the growth. I live near the bypass so I am out of city limits which to me is even better. There are several neighborhoods being built in Knightdale but they are all cookie cutter homes. There's nothing wrong with cookie cutter homes as they are new but they are also in neighborhoods that have homeowners associations. I for one am in an older neighborhood that does not have a HOA--and again, am loving it. If you are looking for an older home with the perks of no HOA, you can try Sandy Trails or Carriage Manor--that is the neighborhood I live in and it has a few homes for sale. We also are one of the few that actually have land and trees with our lots. I have an acre of land and so do most of the houses in this subdivision.
