Default Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle H1N1 (swine flu) case

My son is a sixth grader at Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School. He left school early today after having fever and headaches coupled with coughing spells. He was diagnosed by a local pediatrician as being infected with H1N1 virus. Luckily we caught it early and he is being treated with Tamiflu. His sisters (8th and 11th grades) are also being checked as I write this.

Parents with kids at this school, please keep an eye on your children for all the symptoms over the Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for the heads-up. Hope your son feels better quickly. At least it is on a holiday weekend so he doesn't have to stress over too much missed school as a new sixth grader.

Hope he gets better soon and that the rest of your family stays healthy.

My son daughter and I have all had it in over the last two weeks and it was no big deal for us, fortunately. It seemed to last longer in me than in my kids. My kids are 3 years and 10 months.

So, if anyone comes down with it, don't fret. I had a doctor say that she was seeing mild cases and the only ones who had problems were kids with real asthma issues.

Thank you for all the kind words. he seemed to be doing better tonight with the first dosage of Tamiflu. The doctor said they are treating almost every flu case as a potential H1N1 case at this stage. I heard that Novartis was coming up with a vaacine soon.

His mother, incidentally, was asked to stay home from work until next Thursday.

Yes Tamilflu is a wonderul thing!! My son got the regular flu last February and was started on Tamiflu the same day the symptoms began...24 hours later he was still a little weak but already was a different child! The rest of our family was given Tamiflu prophylactically (all 3 kids have asthma and hubby is a nurse) and we escaped unscathed.

Best of luck...hope everyone feels better soon!
