I'll be buying a home in Wake Forest and was thinking about having a new deck built. Does anyone know what a good price would be for a deck about 23x16 including rails and 2 staircases?

I would estimate around $5,000 for a good one would be a fair price. I'm sure it varies greatly depending on who quotes it though.

Thanks, UNC. I appreciate the response. We'll see what kind of quotes I get.

$18-$25 per square foot, with stairs running about $800 each(assuming it is up in the air a little.

The guys building our screened porch/deck quote $20 sq ft for their base deck package (pressure treated pine). Then they have a list of options - Trex, decorative railings, etc.
The base price includes steps and a light for the steps per code.

Wow. So for the OP's deck of 23x16 that would come out to about $7500 for a simple pressure treated deck.

It adds up quick! They used kiln dried wood on my deck - not sure if that's the standard now, or if it would be an upgrade from regular pressure treated. The decking is definitely a lot nicer than what I've had in the past.

So I should have added they weren't the cheapest bid. You should see their porch pricing

But seriously, we did the "get three quotes" routine. All were within 5% when you got them to apples-apples. My bride does commercial design for a living so we had some specific things we wanted in a deck/porch. The guys we picked took us on a tour of their work and I've never seen a happier group of customers. The extra cost was worth it to me just to not have to project manage the "experience".

Did they use kiln dried pressure treated pine? Or are the posts and joists pressure treated pine and the decking IPE or similar?

It's all kiln-dried pressure-treated pine - no fancy wood for me.

edit: This was right after it was stained - it's dried lighter now, but still looks good:
