I am looking into tutoring programs and services for my ADHD child. Any recommendations? One in particular I came across is Success4School in Cary, NC. Also, any insight on receiving disability benefits or an ADHD. The majority of private services provided require a good amount of money.

Well, the first thing I would recommend is the Feingold Diet if you haven't already. I and many other parents have seen huge success.

Then, there's the Fletcher academy in Raleigh. I don't know much about it but have heard good things.

Has your child been tested and diagnosed? Is your child school aged? If so, I would meet with the school counselor at the school and get the process going for your child to have an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) so that he/she can have accommodations at school. In order to receive accommodations you would need to provide documentation, and meet with the team at the school and work with that team to make decisions about the accommodations.

If you do not have documentation, you can go through the school system (and the school system pays for the testing) but it can take a while (months) to get the testing done. If you want to do it privately, you should find a psychiatrist who specializes in ADD so that he or she can provide more extensive testing than a questionnaire and medication. You need to make sure, if you choose medication, that your child follows up regularly with the doc because getting the medication dosages correct can take some trial and error.

I have known people who have done very well on medication and people who have done just as well by changing their diet (low sugar, no red dye, etc). I think it comes down to what you want to do with your own child.

I could go on and on, but I will spare everyone! DM me if you have more questions. I used to work at a local university with college students with learning disabilities/add, so I have a bit of background.
