I went into Best Buy at Southpoint (Durham) today to buy something and was SHOCKED to see a BIG banner out front saying these strange and unfamiliar words:
NOW HIRING
To tell you the truth, I really was surprised. I thought a store like this would be the last place to start hiring.
They've had that sign since June. What's funny is that it's positioned behind the window so one of the pane dividers hides the "w" in "Now" when you look at it from a certain angle. Makes it look like it says "NO HIRING" haha.
I also saw a few now hiring signs in the mall itself. The Shoppingtide season looms near!
I've always noticed "now hiring" signs during the bad times. I've even pointed them out to a few people I know who are currently jobless. Their response was they make more money not working from unemployment than they could working at a job like that or they were "too good" to work at a place like that and wanted to get a job doing what they are used to doing.
Many places with "entry level" jobs (retail, food service) have a very high employee turnover and are always accepting applications and post "now hiring" signs (whether they have an open position at the moment or not).

My wife has to make like 13 or 14 an hour to pay more than her unemployment, (Im not sure on the exact number) so I can understand what they are saying. Why work for less when she can sit at home lol

I can understand it and don't blame them. They paid into unemployment and should get the benefit. If you lost a 60K per year job, $7.00 an hour at the mall is not going to cover the bills.
