I know there is a thread already for apple-picking, but I'd love to get opinions on other fall things to do in the Triangle, such as...

-best place for pick-your-own pumpkins
-best hayrides (haunted or not)
-best Halloween events
-and, I have to slip this in, does anywhere have cider donuts??!

Feel free to add on-

The Stat Fair is my favorite fall event! Very fun, lots to do and its nice if you can go on a weekday towards the beginning of its run as opposed to a Saturday with all the people. Plus they have the BEST apple cider and frozen apple cider that I have ever had...

I have never seen an apple cider doughnut though.

when / where is the Parade of Homes? I've been meaning to ask if they had one here (we just moved here from the midwest).

Thanks.

I believe there are several Parades of Homes--Raleigh's, Durham's, etc. Google the term and city and you should find it.

When we get that characteristic "NC October" weather, it doesn't matter WHAT you do, just do it outside!

Cedar Creek Farm and Landscaping

The haunted maze was scary! Or at least it was with the group I went with. My friend kept screaming and holding onto me. Fun regardless! I went about three years ago.

The State Fair is always a great event, and keep an eye on the website for the state farmer's market, because they always have a ton of events going on. One great place to go in the fall is Hillridge Farms, which is just north of Raleigh, closer to Wake Forest. There are a tons of things to do there, you can pick your own pumpkins, go on hay rides, they have a giant slide for the kids, as well as the adults, a petting farm, etc. It's worth the trip. Also, starting Thanksgiving night and running through the first week in January, the Meadow Lights, which are in Johnston County (they have a site as well) are great. Hope this helps.

Cider Donuts! Oh how I miss them. I'm headed to Boston next week, and my brother lives around the corner from a U-Pick apple orchard. I'm salivating just thinking about it.. Thanks for the reminder!!!!
