Live where you want to live but don't criticize the rest of us for making different choices.

Vicki,

No one has criticized you for living where you do. All we (FVmommy and I...and others) have done is say how we like living where we do and are giving the OP OUR opinions, as we actually live here.

Regarding values and sales times....no one has stated that locations further away from the cores sell faster or for more. We actually state they sell for less, which is why it can be a better value. There are multiple factors in play on that.

When people say they want to live AWAY from the busy areas and WANT to be in the country, then places like Fuquay and others ARE great choices for THEM. NO, not everyone wants to live in North Raleigh, ITB or Durham. Believe it or not, there are a number of us that love living a bit removed from the core, crowded areas and some like being even further out in Holly Springs.

It seems you are probably not up to speed on the development that has taken place in these parts. You probably focus your business in other parts of Wake County, thus may not be aware of the annexation/development that has extended the reach of Fuquay. Its borders are bigger than they use to be, sort of like what Cary has made so famous.

I am glad you like where you live. I hope you feel the same for us and can understand whay the OP and some of your clients prefer this area better as well. We should not try to steer people away from what they want, because we may like something different.

We bought in FV. 2006. Nice town, nothing special. If we could do it over. it would be someplace in Cary or wake Forest. Chapel Hill or Hillsborough. There is something about Fuquay that well makes it ... I still cannot put my finger on it though...Maybe its the name. But I will tell you this nothing is selling fast in Fuquay. Check the listings.

I know what that "it" is and will never give it up again.

Regarding the "nothing" is selling fast, it may depend on what you consider fast and which neighborhoods you have been looking at. In this thread I created, there is a tale of 2 developments, one moving nicely and one not. Difference? Price. One is in the upper $200's to $400k. The other is $500k+ territory. The first option is one the OP "may" be able to get into with a maxed budget. Crooked Creek was already mentioned by another person and is a good choice as well. So many developments, so little time for them to check them out.

Default My reason for choosing Fuquay

I can see there is a wide variety of opinions regarding the suburbs of Raleigh. The reason that I am sticking to Fuquay is that I received a job offer with the U.S. Public Health Service to work at Fort Bragg with the military. We have two young children (ages 9 and 7) who are bicultural/bilingual and quite bright. . .my wife is from a large city in Japan and I am from central Maine. In any case, my wife wants to be within 30 minutes of Raleigh and we want our kids to attend Wake County schools because of the reputation. FV is the most southern town/city in Wake County and is within an hour commute to Fort Bragg. I am also looking for a town that is less pretentious/down to earth and FV seems like it would fit the bill. I am however, open to different opinions. Anyone on this forum know the actual commute time to FB from FV and other surrounding times? Yes, I know there are closer places to live but no, I am not interested in Fayeteville or Sanford. No disrepect intended, but I am willing to commute from Wake County. An hour commute or so isn't a big deal to me. . .I actually like driving.

I like it here, my wife is from a small town and loves it here. We moved from Maryland and it was too much too fast for her there. FV has that small town appeal, but most things you want or need are just minutes away. I bought the house we are in as a long term thing, not worried about the value in the next year or so, things will get rolling everywhere eventually lol

We have a FV address but we're actually outside the city limits (so no city tax) and closer to Raleigh. Our neighbor works at Pope AFB/FB and the commute is 45 min. to an hr. They moved here for all the same reasons as you and have no issues with the commute. Good luck-

For commuting to Ft. Bragg, Village of Charleston could be perfect for you. If I (or my husband) were commuting in that direction, that subdivision would be at or near the top of my list. I do think Fuquay will best meet your criteria of being in Wake County and commuting to Ft. Bragg.

My brother in law lives in the Garner/Clayton area off Cornwallis Road and commutes to Fayetteville every day. He says it takes him an hour but I'm not sure where in Fay. he goes. He leaves very early in the AM to avoid traffic.

if you are rolling to ft Bragg, then the northern side of Fuquay will add time since you will have to go through or around it to get to work. Would add a bout 10 minutes extra to your time.

village of charleston does not have a pool. not sure if it is finished building out, but it likely only has 10 lots left if that.

I am in summerdale, There are a few houses sitting vacant but builder issues, not the great folks that live around us would prevent me from suggesting it.

It is a good time to buy in FV or really anywhere around raleigh. pricesa are down a bit and lots on the market to choose from in addition to new construction.

good luck with your choice
