It seems to start right at 6pm - and I'll be leaving at 5:55pm to go to dinner and a movie!

A few years ago Congress DID move the dates for switching the clocks back and forth... i think that's what Charles was referring to.

When we lived on Long Island we used to trick-or-treat in the daytime, usually right after school let out and on a weekend it was after lunch time.

When we moved to Western NY we wondered where all the kids were, till 6:30 p.m. came around and then there were crowds of kids out.

I'm in Morrisville and we stay in our own little 'hood, and we all head out just as dusk starts. Last year was really annoying since it took so long to get dark. We go on 10/31 at dusk, no matter what, always. Halloween's just not spooky on 10/30 at 3pm!

Halloween is always on the Feast of All Saints, October 31st. Trick or Treat Night is often set locally for a different night to make it more convienient for neighborhoods. Back in PA they tried to get it to the Saturday or Friday of the week. For the small kids it starts before dusk and goes on until the teenagers are bored with it all.

I have never heard of trick-or-treating happening on any night other than October 31st. That's just crazy talk!

I remember seeing the Halloween episode of CHiPS when I was a kid and being freaked out that the kids were trick-or-treating in the daytime. Made me think for years that LA was the most dangerous place on earth until I realized that they probably didn't want to go through the hassle of filming every scene at night.

This is my first Halloween in our new house and I'm already excited about it. Lots of nice treats for anyone who dresses up and is polite, circus peanuts and coconut candy for the sullen teens with no costumes who just hold up a bag and say nothing.

And yes, to answer the OP, I helped give out candy at a friend's house in Wake Forest last year and the activity was highest from 7-9 PM.
