Our all-time favorite time to go to the fair is when it's raining out and few people are around. Seriously.

If you are not a "ride" person, rainy days are the best!

I always try to get there before 10am on opening day, short lines, no where near as crowded, better parking places.

I never understood why every fair day isn't "can day" - it seems like they'd get a lot more donations.

Some company has to sponsor "can day" and pay the fair organizers for all those free admissions they give away in exchange for the donations.

Too bad people can't just bring one extra can of food per person PLUS pay the regular admission.

Wouldn't that be nice? They'd get between 35,000 and 87,000 cans of food each DAY -- if everyone donated and attendance was similar to last year.

I can't go during the week so I'm stuck doing the weekend deal. I don't do rides either, I just go to walk around and sample the healthy carnival food

I'm doing the weekend because I have no other choice. I know it's probably not ideal, but we're going to get there right when it opens and do rides as soon as they start. Then when everyone else is pouring in to do rides, we'll look at animals, eat, etc.

Weekends can be a lot of fun - especially if you're not doing the rides. (The lines can be long.) There is a lot happening on the weekend days, and the crowd, the sights, the sounds.... all make for a lively experience. Some days are better than others to go to the fair, but I'm not sure there's a bad day.
