Our chimney used to have chimney swifts. We didn't want to burn them up, so we blocked it off.
It shouldn't be a problem unless you like to cozy up to a roaring fire in summer. Chimney's leave for South America in September, and return to nest in late April.
I didn't know that! But they drove our dogs crazy, so we had to do something.

I can understand that. They drove my wife crazy too I finally came up with a baffle to reduce the noise coming through the closed damper. Chimney Swifts probably aren't for everyone.
