Default Moving to Durham?

Hey,

I am considering a move to Durham, but I do not know too much about it. I would need to be relatively close to Duke. I'd like to live in an urban or semi-urban environment. What is downtown like? Are there affordable apartments or condos downtown?

What do people like about Durham? What do people dislike?

Thank you for your input

Whether or not you'd consider it affordable depends on where you are coming from and how much money you will be earning.

There's a thread not too far down (with many posts) about what people love about Durham.
Some people think there is a lot of crime. Again, it depends on where you're coming from and what you're used to.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm coming from South Florida -- land of the gated, isolated, cookie cutter neighborhoods. That's why I'd love to live in a small downtown (if it's feasible in Durham, I don't know much about it) where I can walk to get groceries, coffee, etc.

South Florida is very expensive. I'm used to a 1 bedroom apartment in a cheap area costing $1000 or so, and a cheap 2 bedroom maybe running $1300-1400.

Rents are much less than that in Durham.
