Best Home Communities In Chapel Hill For Families
Hi,
We are planning to move from Long Island to Chapel Hill in about 8 months. In a few weeks we are coming down to look at homes and home communities within the Chapel Hill School District.
We have one child who will be attending 3rd grade next year and we want to be in a neighborhood which is made up primarily of families.
It is our intention to find a home somewhere between 650K to 800K. It would be nice if the neighborhood had a pool and clubhouse but that is not a requirement.
We did see Southern Village and Meadowmont and we were not partial to the layout of those communities. I understand that there are two "green" communities which have nice homes and within our price range.
The only caveat is that we would like to have at least .33 acre and I know some of these communities only have .15 or smaller plots which would be too little land for us.
Any suggestions of communities that we should look at would be greatly appreciated.

You might look at the various subdivisions off Homestead Road (which is technically in northern Carrboro).

Southern Village or Meadowmont? I know SV is basically a family oriented spot with a pool, tennis court, parks, and a little walkable street with a movie theatre, coffee and ice cream shop. I'd check it out.

The interesting thing about chapel hill is there are not tons of "newer communities" where you will find all of the amenities, etc. You could spend 650k on a home, with a lot of land (1/2 to an acre or more) and the home could be 50 years old, and need updating.
For the new subdivisions, I would look in the weaver dairy road area, which is close to chapel hill, but years ago used to be trees and the "country". A subdivision I really like is:
Lake Hogan Farm (I have friends who live there and they love it. they have kids in elementary school)
Good luck! There are a couple of new subdivisions in Carrboro (with the schools being sewell, mcdougal and carrboro high but I am not sure if you had excluded carrboro or not)

Sorry, I know it is in chapel hill, but I meant, it is not in the downtown area. When I grew up there, that area was out in the country (along with where I grew up). Technically yes, it is in chapel hill! Sorry for the confusion.

lots of nice nieghborhoods which meet your criteria off Homestead Road as previously noted. Great schools, close to I40 lots the size you want and definitely family oriented

Neighborhoods in Chapel Hill - What's the best choice?
Hi,
We are moving to Chapel Hill at the beginning of next summer and are coming down in a few weeks to look at communities.
We have an 8 year old girl and absolutely want a community which is filled with children. We would prefer to keep the final home price under $750K
I have been told that we should look at both the "green" communities in Chapel Hill which I believe are Claremont & Briar Chapel.
Also, No Kodzu (tag name) offered the following advice...
Look at neighborhoods like Lake Hogan Farms, Wexford, etc on Homestead Road. She would be welcomed at mcDougle a great elementary school with attached jr. hi(opps now they call them middle schools) plus Carrboro Library right betweeen the two schools and which is open and thriving on Sunday afternoons. If I can help more please contact me.
If anyone has any advice on communities we should look at it would be very much appreciated.
