I have looked at a map but since I have not been down to NC yet I am curious how the commute to Stough would be from say Cary, Apex, Wake Forest etc.??
My DD went to Stough for several years (nice school BTW). It's pretty centrally located in Raleigh. It's basically right behind Crabtree Valley Mall, so you could mapquest it from the mall and get the approximate time from different areas. I live in East Cary and when my child went there we could get there in about 10-15 minutes. It would be more of a haul form Apex or Holly Springs, but it's pretty close to 40 and 440.
I would say East Cary or Cary near Harrison around SAS. West Raleigh (where Stough is) or North Raleigh. Apex, Holly Springs and Wake Forest you're are getting further away.
Yes. Once again, it's much harder to find an unsafe area of Raleigh then a safe one.....and the schools even those areas are not exactly 'unsafe'.
I agree that it would be a haul from Wake Forest to there. Lots of great areas near there though.
Desdemona is right.
You may likely find something close enough to walk to school and find yourself in a quiet neighborhood in one of the most desireable areas of Raleigh.
I wouldn't see any reason to live further away except to invest more gas money and more time in your housing costs.
If the prices are a little high, just go 2 or 3, or 4, miles north up Edwards Mill onto Creedmoor Road and options abound.
So would you consider this a safe area of Raleigh??
We've stayed in the area for 1.5 weeks now and found it extremely safe. Laurel Hills park is really nice, too, never seen any weird activities going on there, bathrooms are clean, etc.
Stough is school of national distinction, yes?
Frankly, I'm not sure why our realtor always drives us so far from here, to other North Raleigh and Raleigh, Cary, etc subdivisions when this area looks and feels almost exactly like the other areas! I plan to ask him about that, too.
Plus, the historic Glenwood-Brooklyn homes are not far away - gorgeous neighborhoods and proximity to downtown. Unique restaurants like Hiberian, 518, Armadillo.
That's a great area. We lived in the Oak Park subdivision for several years which is sort of wedged in between Glenwood Ave, Duraleigh Road and Edwards Mill Road. In the 7 years we lived back there, nothing bad every happened. The parks ar enice, Laurel Hills Park is great and also has a rec center where they offer tons of adult and children's classes. The mall is 5 minutes away, the downtown Glenwood district is only a few miles away and Umstead Park is just a few miles up the street.
I highly recommend that area.
and Umstead Park is just a few miles up the street.
I highly recommend that area.
Which street? Still finding our way around. I was thinking we had to go quite far to get to Umstead but sounds like I'm wrong about that.
