I just read a great article yesterday but I can't find it to link it. The amount of propane being put into a 20LB tank has become much less than that in most places. There are places still feeling at the higher level but most have lowered it. The industry standard has been lowered. The excuse given was that they wanted to save the consumer money and propane at that time had sky rocketed in price. Now that it has come way down they have not increased the fill amount. Sorta like the fuel surcharge that some companies added when gas was $4.00 a gallon but they still charged it at $1.50 a gallon. The article was great and just the information you wanted. It gave stores etc on a national basis. I will look hard for it and link it if I find it. I am shopping grills of all sorts and came across it.

The refill places put the tank on a scale.
In plain view.
I like that.

Thats it and a great article also I found this one for Buffalo which probably piggybacks on yours.
Propane suppliers skimping when refilling tanks : Home: The Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/680336.html - broken link)
Backyard grillers may get a little steamed this holiday weekend when exchanging their propane tanks for prefilled ones: They will be getting less fuel for their money than last Memorial Day.

When oil prices soared in 2008, propane suppliers quietly reduced by 2 pounds the amount of gas pumped into each 20-pound tank, saying they wanted to avoid raising prices.

Since then, propane prices have been cut in half as the price of oil has dropped. But smaller pre-filled replacement amounts are still being sold nationwide by many dealers, and most buyers are unaware because the tank is the same size.

The above is from the link

That was a point the article makes. Don't do an exchange because you have no way of knowing. Your way is the wise way for the reason you give.

Is there anywhere in Wake Forest to get a refill (not exchange)? I googled but didn't find anything reliable.

Thanks

Holding Oil on S. White near downtown does, but they close at noon on Saturday, so it may be too late for you today.

Does anyone know of a place in Apex that refills 20# tanks? We just moved here and I'm used to having refill stations at most gas stations. I am trying to avoid the tank swap
Thank you.
