I want to go to school, and an associates is all I will be able to do currently, as I will need to start going to work full time after that and school 3/4 full time. I need some of the prereqs etc. before I can transfer to a university.. What can I expect to make in that field with an associates? I plan on immediately following up all the way to a Masters but would want to get out into the work force to gain the related work experience and additional money. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!
yes, in general this a great area for biotech (why I moved from MA [also good for that] to the Triangle and not several other places I was interested in). right now, of course, jobs are much more scarce, but in the long run it's a great field to be in. not to mention it can be pretty interesting
The good thing about the RT is that the biotech is just one part of the health care/pharmaceutical development field here. You have benchwork to bedside work to draw upon. The pool of applicants is incestuous though, meaning that if your position hits a snag or wall, there can be other opportunities at a nearby company. Not just biotech, but big and little pharma, consultant/home-based work, two largest CROs, manufacturing plants just outside the RTP (not allowed in RTP), and then academia and it's spinoffs from DUKE/UNC/NCSU.
Not a big area, but definitely the best area when comparing the cost of living / quality of life / pace of work compared to other biotech hotspots.
