In WCPSS, even kids who are AG have an IEP -- <grin>

So simply saying you have an IEP in the WCPSS doesn't necessarily mean your child has a difficulty with learning.

It is worth a call to WCPSS & also perusing the website to find out what you would expect to get in regard to services.

Then, I would call Durham's and Chapel Hill school systems to find out what they offer before making a decision of where to live. WCPSS has grown a lot so it is a big school system -- and they seem to be moving toward a consistency across schools which some think is good - since each middle school would be striving toward a 'norm'. Some view that as a downside since you no longer have schools that 'specialize' in certain areas, if that makes sense. I don't know anything about Durham and Chapel Hill or Orange County schools but you might find threads that describe such things.

Since your child is in 8th grade, you'll also want to focus on high schools that your house/apartment is supposed to go to - most middle roll into a particular high school. You'll find that on the web if you enter an address, then you can find what middle and high schools that address is zoned to go to.

you should also know that 4 new school board members were just voted in, which might shake things up a bit regarding what address goes to what school -- there *is* a 3 year plan, but that might change because of this new board.

best of luck in your move, and hope you find something that is workable.

I agree with weluvnc you need to do some research, both of my kids had an iep and went to Heritage Middle School and onto Wakeforest Rolesville HS, they had a very good support system and did well.
