I would like to give some sound advice about drinking and driving in the state of NC. Remember this! "One drink..one wine..one beer.....DO NOT get behind the wheel of a car. A DWI conviction will follow you the rest of your life like a physco ex girlfriend. It will never come off your record. Period!

I was driving up 421 towards Boone and on the other side cars where line up .
Someone hit a bear and I was thinking that has to be worse than hitting a Deer.
The center of gravity has to be different and orobably did some radiator damage

I can not speak for the states around NC, I can only compare with California and prices here are outrageous. We used to get a 1.75 liter bottle of Grey Goose vodka for $50 in CA and it's $70-75 here. You'll go broke entertaining with alcohol. We are not big drinkers, but we do appreciate fine spirits, wine and beer. We are also foodies and like to cook with the stuff and are dissapointed with the selection as well. Nothing is reasonably priced here. This was one thing we failed to check out in performing our relocation reconnaissance.
We've had friends make a liquor run for us. Buying things in FL and dropping them off here when they come through. Thank goodness for good friends.

Funny you mention this. I moved here from FL 2 years ago and haven't noticed any difference in prices. Perhaps I'm not paying enough attention....

FYI - I do not believe ljd lives in the boonies. Just clarifying that as you responded to his post directly and I believe he has previously stated he lives in a populated area that is heavily developed.

I have to say, when I read the original heading I made a direct connection: thinking the question was going to be about the relationship to how much alcohol is consumed relative to the amount of road kill.
I'm not the only one, am i?

Where I grew up and lived in Northern Virginia we had just as much road kill as we do here and I would not consider where I lived the boonies. I lived in a county that was over three times denser than Wake County (Fairfax). Deer are literally everywhere. I used to see some natsy, messed up deer even riding through DC.

Prices aren't as good as the liquor stores in states that don't have this policy, but at least the selection is decent.
2) I don't know how NC compares to PA, but i was SHOCKED at the amount of roadkill when I first moved here from SoCal. Granted, SoCal isn't much known for its over-abundance of deer, but geez! It's not so much the quantity of roadkill that bothers me as the overall carnage. 'Roadkill' doesn't even begin to encompass it. 'Road-obliteration' sounds more suitable.

That's what I was afraid of. When we lived in VA it was the same way .(as it is here too)
Well, we're still coming to take a look the first week of December, but this may not be what we were hoping for. =(

I've never really given much thought to the quanity of road kill in the area until I saw this thread a few days ago and today while driving westbound on 540 counted seven dead deer along the roadside. DH said he read an article in the N&O a couple of weeks back declaring this is peak deer mating season and to be careful as they are extremely unpredictable. We are in N. Raleigh and there are lots of deer and other wildlife, and unfortunately a good number succumb to encounters with autos, but I've noticed that the city or someone gets them cleared off the road pretty quickly.
