Default We found a house in Durham!

My 11 day trip to Durham was very fruitful! We found a house! And even found someone to agree to our long closing date! We close on our house here in Portland at the beginning of July and made our Durham offer contingent upon closing here in Portland. So come July we'll be Durhamites. I can't wait.

So here is the skinny on the house hunting trip. We saw about 15 houses and ended up bumping up the amount we were willing to spend. All the homes I saw at our original price level had location issues.... too close to busy roads mainly or the drive way required mountain climbing crampons to get to the top!! Can't live with either! And I thougth I was being smart doing all that Google Earth searching before hand! Nothing works like walking around a neighborhood.

We ended up with a home that is only 2 years old. I'm loving the idea of good insulation and efficient HVAC (currently own a 90 yr old craftsman).
It's in a smaller subdivision in SW Durham and is a mile down the road from my hubby's best friend. Our kids will go to school together!!! Love that!

The house had only been on the market for less than a week so we ended up paying 98.5% of asking. I went in as a deal seeker. Unfortunately, the only homes that fell into the deal category were too loud. BUT we did not expect owning such a new house. The current owner travels alot and does not have kids or pets so it felt brand spanking new to us. So I'm justifing the extra price by not having to replace the roof or HVAC in less than 5 years! (Hopefully )

I think there are "deals" to be found in Durham. But I also saw a few houses pend right away for full price. It just depends on location, price, and quality. But it really does seem like there is something for everybody and every price range in The Triangle.

I can't wait to meet some of my city-data buddies at the next meet up!

Congratulations, PDXmom--I enjoy reading your posts. We're moving from so. cal. this Thursday--road trip with 2 five-year-olds. Give me strength!

Looks like we're all going to be descending upon the triangle around the same time. Ladies--how about a meet-up at Southpoint??!!

See you on the east coast!
