Yes, this is what the officer said. I asked to see the readout and the officer said she could not. She said they had someone on the ground with lidar, so it wasn't her and there wasn't anything in her car to show my alleged speed.

I saw this officer's car and another officer's car up ahead hiding. I don't know exactly where the person clocking people was located, but it may have been the same place. Then a mile or so ahead were a few more troopers. One was on the side of the road and as I approached, began flashing his lights. I drive this stretch several times a week, and ever since they started widening the road, I don't think there's a day I haven't seen someone pulled.

Well, talk to a lawyer and find out if NC law requires the "arresting" officer to be the "witnessing" officer (all tickets are considered to be "in lieu of" an arrest, but most states call them arrests). I saw this argued in California and it worked for that guy there but only a NC traffic attorney would be able to answer this question definitively for you.

I have a escort radar detector with laser detection built it. It's a great investment and cheaper then a couple of speeding tickets it has saved me a bunch of times.

In response to the original poster. I would like to offer the following ways to prevent a Laser, Radar, or Vascar ticket in the future. Feel free to contact me via email at stlouisx50@gmail.com if you have any further questions. Here are a few ways to avoid speed traps as requested. CB Radio - Not many will use this old way of avoiding police because of the fact that a long antenna has to be installed on the vehicle. However with a CB Radio you may or may not hear others talk about police and their location. Police Scanner - A police scanner is another good way of avoiding a speed traps. Police sometimes when setting up a speed trap will use one car for shooing radar or laser and then call out to chase cars. Many times you can figure out where the speed trap is just by their communications. Such as when they call out the speed of cars or even streets. Besides that its fun to listen to whats going on. The problem is more and more police are going to digital communications and the scanners for listining to those communications start at $495.00. Avoid Speeding Over the WHITE PAINTED BLOCKS - Always avoid speeding over the white blocks that you see on the highway. These blocks are used for what is called VASCAR. This method is used both on the ground and from the air. Police will time you from the first block to the second block, the problem? You usually wont see the airplane or helicopter, so if you see the blocks, get to the posted speed limit and stay there until you pass the last set of white blocks. *Note usually there is only 2 blocks , one for the start and one for the end, however there are some highways in MO and IL that use multiple blocks so be cautious. Radar Detector - Many people thing going out and buying any radar detector will work, however this is not true. The cheaper you spend the less detection range you will have. You want to be pretected the best you can so go with the higher end of detectors. Moderator cut: No links to other forums please. *Note Radar detectors will not help you in the event a police officer paces you or uses vascar or laser. Laser Jammer - While Laser/Lidar is new to police, more and more departments are allowing their officers to use laser/lidar. Laser or Lidar work by sending out a invisable beam of light and then reflecting it back to the gun. The beam width is so small that it can pin point one car vs. radar that picks up multiple. The best defence to this is to buy a laser jammer. The Problem? Some states have made laser jammers illegal, some cites have as well. The good news is that the laser jammers also work as a parking sensor so if you do get caught you can plea its a parking sensor. You will want laser jammer head for the front and back of your vehicle. The cost? $600 + depending on the type of setup you want. Is it worth it? YES. *Note don't be fooled by the Rocky Mountian Radar Scramblmers that you may have heard commercials for, THEY DO NOT WORK! Your Eyes - Your eyes can be one of the most vaulable tools available. Always scan with your eyes for vehciles that you see police use , look in your rear view mirror for head lights at night that may look like the type of lights police cars have. Watch on overpasses, on the other side of hills, behind bushes, medians ect. Also watch for brake lights on cars ahead of you. Moderator cut: No links to other forums please. Radar Jammers - Radar jammers area illegal but can still be obtained. They are not reccomended however most of the time work. The cost? More than $1,000.00. If you get caught with a "Radar Jammer" the fine is even more than the cost of the jammer and possible prision time. *Note I'd avoid this one. If you have any further questions let me know. A good cop running radar can easily be rendered ineffective by a good radar detector and a driver that knows how to read it, watches other drivers, and pays attention.
