I have always thought that downtown Raleigh could benefit from a little more music street performances. I play a musical instrument and am thinking of venturing out into the public in a few weeks to play some Christmas Carols and maybe raise a littel money for a local charity.

So where do you think some good locations are? I guess the best spots would be someplace with a lot of foot traffic but enough space that somebody playing music does not cause congestion. I think I might need a permit to do this in downtown Raleigh so I am open to suggestions in other towns / cities in the Triangle as well.

Don't worry, I don't plan to start playing Christmas carols until after Thanksgiving!

Not sure about other places but I will be looking into it. Thanks!

Would you kick me out if I played in Brentwood?

I'm downtown a lot for work and would LOVE to hear you play! I think on a chilly weekday, that's just the sort of thing that people downtown could use to put a little brightness in their day. I work for The Arc of Wake Co. so I always put a plug for donations for us or The Arc of North Carolina.... we work with people who have developmental disabilities, providing just about any service you can imagine. As far as specific places, I don't know if there are rules about governmental buildings, but man, I'd love to hear some music at the court house. I dread going there so music would cheer things up! Maybe near some lunch spots downtown, too, because they get pretty busy on weekdays. Or is this a weekend thing? If so, my answers change completely, but this is already long enough . I obviously get very excited about street performers!

That would be the greatest to hear live street music downtown.
I love the area between the History Museum and the Museum of Natural
Science.

People preach on the corner..
Why can't someone play without a permit...
Hope you can..
Let us know.

Nrg...I dunno...I find this whole thread very funny, especially picturing you on the street corner at Moore Sqaure playing your harmonica....is your wife in on this new business plan of yours?

My wife has thrown her full support behind me.

I'm just looking to get back into playing after many years away from music. I play the trombone and planning on playing during the holidays gives me a goal to work towards to keep me motivated to practice.

Hey I like the idea of Moore Square. I might try playing there.

I plan on dontating any meager earnings I make. From searching this forum it seems like the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network is a good local charity I could donate to.
