I have a 3 and 8 year old. What family activities or places are out that way that are kid-friendly?

There are many places out of reach when one is not looking.....one within reach of all that are young and old is a simple walk..

One can still go as a family to a place right off of Falls of Neuse to the Falls Dam. The family can walk and talk all the way to the Dam, maybe its a half mile or so but at the right time of the day the walk seems to take but a few minutes. As its a place to recede from the days hustle and bustle and take in nature. Where your walking path is crossed by Squirrels working away on their winter harvest, by Deer who for the most part could care less that you are only less than 20 feet away, by countless birds wisping to and from the trees.

About the time you start to think about how far you walked you come to the Dam. Walking across the Dam you get a feel of how high you are. To the left is Falls Lake and btw that is the West side where you see the fantastic sun sets and to the right is the Falls River outlet where you can always see a angler or two trying their luck.

The walk across the Dam on a late Fall evening is peaceful and relaxing. Its great and 'free' family time to walk, talk, ride bikes, or just sit a spell and take in natures beauty. Great place to take a hike with that teen and talk about life in general....

Its a short distance to travel to get real mileage out of quality family time IMHO!

Raleigh Winterfest! Park and eat on Glenwood, then catch a Rickshaw or the R-line over to the festivities. Both are free, although tips are recommended for the rickshaw drivers. You could also check out Marbles or any of the other museums downtown.

I would highly recommend getting into geocashing with your family. Not only is it free to do (of course you need a gps) but it is loads of fun for the whole family.
