I live near Southpoint mall and want to make a Puerto Rican dish for tomorrow. The only problem is I can't seem to find "gandules", or piggeon peas, at Harris Teeter, Krogger, Super Target, or Food Lion. Does anyone know if there is a Latin/Hispanic market near Southpoint?

I've heard about Compare Foods near Downtown Durham, as well as La Superior, but I wanted to avoid driving a lot if possible.

Thanks in advance!

We are also making arroz con gandules for tomorrow, and we found the gandules at the Krogers there on Fayetteville Rd just yesterday.

We've driven up to Compare a few times, and it's been worth the trip to us. Incidentally, that little World Market on 54 is mostly Asian, but it does carry a few items, including the best priced plantains that we've found in SW Durham without having to make the trek.

Thanks!

I just went to Compare today after work. I looked at the Kroger last Sunday and I couldn't find them. Where they by the Goya beans?

BTW, I picked up two green plantains, one ripe plantain, and some tamarindos while at Compare. I'm really looking forward to the arroz con gandules tomorrow!

Yes, they were in the Hispanic section.

Are you Puerto Rican? Not too many people know the wonders of arroz con gandules for the holidays!
