Default I need someone that can cut hair AND listen to directions

I have had it, I've had so many bad experiences trying to get an extremely simple haircut I think I am going to start shaving my head. I HATE my current haircut, I'm going to go back and try to get it fixed as best as possible but I don't have much hope.

All I want is a simple bob. Just like this: Inverted bob haircut image by Lorna_Fox on Photobucket

No one will cut my hair short enough in the back! I wear helmets for my hobbies and leaving it any longer makes me get constantly poked in the neck and want to kill people! To make it a million times worse, the last guy cut some "fringe" in the front after I told him NO BANGS NO FRINGE.

Can anyone suggest someone to cut my hair that's not an idiot? I HATE wasting $45ish and ending up with a haircut that's even worse that what I had when I walked in.

Matt at Salon Blu in Brier Creek. He's very good at what he does, and he gives me what I ask for.

I used to go to a very high end salon and ran into that same problem!

I now go to Joy at J and J in Wake Forest and she is one of the most down to earth, pleasant people that I have ever met. She truly wants to help and give you what you want.

I feel your pain. My hair is almost exactly that same style --- love that style BTW. I had a gal in Creedmoor (yes Creedmoor) cut it and it was perfect the first time --- the second time I went it was as though she forgot what hair style she was cutting. Why oh why can't they get it right???? I just wanted to write and tell you that "I know" -- if you find someone good in your inquiry please pass their name along. For me it seems they get it right the first time and the next time the cut is a flop. I've been here 5 years and I still have yet to find a stylist that I go back to the 3rd time.

My problem is that I have grown to hate haircuts so much I will go 4 to 6 months between them, and I guess at that point they are afraid to cut my hair the way I tell them to and leave it way too long. It's to the point that I almost cry at the thought of getting a haircut because the only other option is rage. I can't even get the right haircut the first time, I'd love to worry about a second haircut! I'll definitely let you know if I find someone, although it'll probably be a while since being unemployed and paying money to be tortured (yes, it feels like that at this point) isn't the best combo.

I could make a list of stylists I've been unhappy with, but I'm not sure that's fair since most of the time the thought of going back and spending MORE time getting my hair cut is just too painful so I don't always go back and try to get it fixed.

Know what you mean...this drives me NUTS! They can never remember how they cut it last time.

I used to have a friend who's a hairdresser in the UK, she also worked in Italy. She's always worked at very hi-end salons that catered to wealthy clients, movies folks, etc. and she kept a record of each client for each visit noting exactly what she cuts and what adjustments she made to the style or color. I don't know why I haven't run across a hairdresser here who does this. Maybe they do and I haven't come across them(?).

I like the style and have seen lots of women with it in this area...unfortunately, have no clue where they go. While there are lots of not so good hairdressers here, there are a handful of salons that have long had an excellent reputation, they are expensive, maybe $85+ cut(?). I'll look them up and Dm you - just in case you haven't been to them!

So one solution to this dilemma is to take a digital voice recorder and a digital camera and a friend and have the friend photograph or video each stage of the haircut AND have the hairdresser talk through each step out loud as she is cutting your hair, saying what length she is cutting, what scissors she's using, techniques, any special considerations she is making for the way your hair lays, etc. Then save the pictures/video and transcribe and make notes from the voice recording so you have both a visual and written record of exactly what the hairdresser did. Obviously if you like the cut, keep the pics/video and the transcription, make a small album with the pictures and notes, and bring this album with you the next time you go to that hairdresser so you can show her exactly what she did the last time and she can follow her own steps. Make sure you get pictures taken of every angle of your haircut when the hairdresser is finished so you can have a record of how the cut is supposed to look and the hairdresser can also refer to these 'after' shots the next time as well.

This may seem needless and a lot of extra work, but why take chances if you can ensure a consistent haircut? Do it one time and you'll be thanking yourself over and over because you won't have to try and explain what the hairdresser should do--you'll be able to show him/her exactly what to do, which scissors to use, etc.

I've taken pictures of what I want in with me EVERY time, and it doesn't seem to help. I wish I was a guy just so I could cut my hair off. I've even thought about trimming chunks of it the length I want so the person that cut it would be forced to make it the length I want.
