I've picked out several patterns on their website that I like, but I'd rather see them in person before I buy.

What you won't see in person before you buy is how horrible silverware scratches them I registered for the dishes for my wedding. After a few years I got rid of them and got porcelin instead of stoneware.

Really? We had Pfaltzgraff years ago and I don't recall a problem like that. But then, maybe they don't make them as well as they used to.

A few years back, I bought some beautiful Pfaltzgraff dishes. Lovely earthy green with dark red specks of glaze. Big, oversized and very simple but elegantly rustic. Well after a few weeks, I had some chips and 2 broken dishes. I called PGraff for replacement and when I complained about these dishes being so fragile, the customer service agent explained there are 2 types of PGraff. One is stoneware, very durable and hardy. The other is earthenware, not very hardy, may absorb water, hard to microwave with, easily chipped and cracked. Lucky me! I ended up with an earthenware set...even tho it wasn't specified on the packaging.

I only post this so you can be wary and informed. I just about never use my $200 dishes, and when we do we won't put them in the dishwasher, hand wash only. I can't stand these dishes anymore. In fact, I'll go so far as to say I hate them.

eta: I can't recall exactly what the PGraff lady told me, but I think it was along the lines of the firing processes being different.

ok, so I guess I should look at alternatives. Its been years since I've bought dinnerware. We're talking just everyday stuff. What other brands should I look at? I checked out Oneida but wasn't impressed with their patterns.

The only place I have seen was some time back there was an outlet for them, they had every pattern you have ever heard of.

Check it out, maybe there is one in your area.

I have seen SOME patterns at Bed Bath and Beyond AND always remember about them that their coupons they send out, never expire so you can get 20% off your purchase.
