I don't have a job to get to but I can imagine it is havoc for so many people to deal with these delayed openings. It sure messes up my schedule. What can possibly be done in 2 hours anyway? What do they do with those 2 hours/ How long as this been going on?
It was extremely foggy this morning. Even the national weather service had an advisory on it. They delay openings to make it safer for kids and teachers to get to school in the morning.
I assumed the OP was referring to the delayed openings the CHCCS system has on seven Thursdays throughout the year. The time is supposed to be used by teachers for "collaborative planning or professional development." I believe they've been doing this for about 4 or 5 years now.
yes transplant that is what I'm talking about. Are the thursdays evenly apart? I have ended up with doctor appts on too many of these delayed openings and would love to fill in my calendar before hand but I guess I could get that from their website. I will try that.
No, they don't seem to fall at the same time each month. You can get the list here (http://www2.chccs.k12.nc.us/education/sctemp/17775096bdf05a679f2a630da209a658/1260885447/Updated_Delayed_Opening_09_10.pdf - broken link). (I was wrong - it's eight Thursdays, not seven.)

Blame it on Wake County. They started the 2 hour early release and then moved to the 2 hour late start. Durham Co has a 2 hour early release about once a month. I hate it. My kids love it.
It's a way to get teachers more planning time /PLC time in theory ( but how much do you really get done in 2 hours?) without the district paying the teachers more money. It's a crock.
How did Wake start this if Chapel Hill has "done it" for years? Wake county just started their early release Wed. this year, and they have never done late start for planning.

True. I don't know exactly when CHCCS started this - it's been at least 4 or 5 years. Honestly, I've heard almost no complaints about it among parents. Doesn't seem to be that big of an issue.
