...or do I just have rude neighbors (or rude friends of neighbors)? Understand, I can see if someone is having a party or there's no place else to park etc - but I live in a fairly typical subdivision w/room on both sides, and the people across from me (mostly their teenage kids I think) have visitors ALL the time...and very often, even though there's curb space in front of their house, they park in front of mine. In fact, right now there's a car that's been parked there for days. wth? I know a property owner doesn't "own" the road in front of their house, but I was raised that that kind of thing is rude. You're not there to see me and this isn't a shopping mall either.

So just wondering, is this some demographic thing I'm not up on?

Of course it's not just a NC or Southern thing.

That being said, my neighbors do exactly the same thing. I wouldn't really care except that after a rain the ground by the street is soft and muddy for days and I am always raking out the ruts. We live on a dead end street so other large vehicles (delivery & trash trucks) sometimes make ruts while they try to turn around but it's somehow more annoying when the neighbors or their guests do it because they could park in front of their own house...the trucks don't have much space or choice when they are backing up to turn around.

I have also seen delivery drivers take their time and make lots of little turns to avoid driving their wheels off the street and into our grass. I sure do appreciate when they take the time!!

Rude neighbors aren't limited to the south.

Teenagers aren't usually known to be the most polite and thoughtful group of individuals. You might try to just nicely ask them to stop parking there.

Same thing happened to us. I asked, acknowledging that they legally were doing nothing wrong, and they haven't parked in front of the house again. It made no sense because the spot in front of their own home was always empty. I think the mother didn't like looking at her son's car.

I see no problem with it so long as it's not for an extended amount of time (a few days). A few hours or overnight is no big deal and I would consider it normal.

I try to park in front of the house I'm visiting, if possible, but it's more out of laziness than anything else. But, if it bothers you then just let them know. You might be considered the "bad guy" for raising the issue, but at least you'll be happy.

How do you even know the owners of the car are Southerners?

I live in a fairly nice neighborhood, and I built a circular front driveway to prevent my guests from ever doing that, yet some of them STILL park out front. When others have parties or guests, they sometimes do the same. Oh well.

They probably just had that look about them. You know... that southern look.
