Driver License - Real ID (Raleigh: DMV, renewal, approval)

I applied for driver license and Raleigh DMV took my documents & they
said that its been sent to Homeland security for approval. Is this normal
procedure and its been more than 3 weeks since i applied. But still not
got the approval. Any idea of how long will it take to complete?

What type of documents did you give them? Are you a citizen with the required documents for a license? I can't say that either myself, or my husband who is from India (but now a US citizen) have ever run into that scenario.
I would think that might be the case for non-citizens with unfamiliar documentation.
ALso...did you let them take your hard copy of the documents? That would make me very nervous. I was in Europe once and when I applied to extend my visa, they wanted to take my passport and airlines tickets keep them for a month! Um...no! That's all I have to prove who I am!

I just went down to the DMV last week for a renewal, expecting that it was going to take a couple months (based on the post card that I got from DMV about a month ago). I got my renewal license in the mail today.

All together it took about 9 days.
