You are over 50 get over the sports stuff.

Its nice down here no big snows or ice its not as cold. Its not as cheap as one would think though. Taxes are high the state tax rate is close to 7%, real estate taxes are going hiher sales tax is over 7% and they tax food and clothing.

Schools are an issue. I will hate to say this but if you move down here look only at Cary or Chapel Hill.

Thanks I know, but the area around the Fuquay store is not going upscale. A rental place? the check cashing place, the bad neighborhood area behind the kangaroo gas station at the intersection of 42 55 and 401. They build a Kohls and nothing else.??

Nothing to worry about as far as sports! Husband and I are both Red Sox and Patriot fans. There is a large presence of relocated New Englanders in the area. We belong to both a Red Sox and Patriot meetup group - get to watch the games with other fans! Today, we're headed to Raleigh to watch NE/Jax game.

Moved from MetroWest in June '05, HUGE Sox and Pats fans and have a basement loaded with Sox memorabilia. We live in Cary about 1.5 miles from ljd1010 (and I share the same birthday as she).

Tons and tons of MA/NY/CT+++ relocated here. House taxes way less. Cost of driving WAY less (except gas). Everything else, cost is the same or higher.

I own numerous guns and am not oppressed as I was in MA in that regard.

Durham Bulls, Carolina Mudcats, and others easy driving distance. Much college sports (although nothing compares to Fenway or Foxboro. That's the biggest void in my life).

Do your research and don't be hasty. There's plenty of housing here for your needs.

As most will recommend, have a job lined up BEFORE moving to NC.

I third that.

There aren't a lot of jobs unless you are in the medical field.

You'll get homesick at times, but won't miss the taxes or long winter.
