My parents are in town from new york and I'd love to show them the area and do some fun things with them. We have a one year old, which is mostly the reason why they are here .

Does anyone have some suggestions on some fun "indoor" things that we can do with a one year old this weekend?

Depends on the one year old, but the "Around Town" section of the Marbles Museum is great for toddlers (is the child walking? if not, that changes things). Other parts of the museum are good too, but Around Town probably holds the most interest for that age child. It's worth checking out the whole thing though, for the future. My almost-3-year-old enjoys most all of it now.

Marbles does cost per person (kids and adults) to get in ($5 or $7 I think - we buy an annual membership, so I'm not sure).

The Museum of Natural Sciences is good too, and it's free. There are butterflies (live), snakes and bugs (some life, some fake), dinosaurs, etc. And while you're there, the adults could take in the Museum of History across the way, also free, and manageable with small ones in strollers.

I've heard the Musuem of Life and Science in Durham is great, but I haven't been there, so can't speak to appropriateness for toddlers.

My kids liked the mall playgrounds a lot at that age, if you can go at a time it's not too crowded. The one at Southpoint is really good. I haven't been to Triangle Town Center, but my in-laws took my kids and it sounded good. Cary and Crabtree have them too.

I haven't done this yet, but want to take my kids downtown one day and use the R Line (free bus) to get around, do the museums, then end up at the Cupcake Shoppe in Glenwood south for a sweet treat. You'd see much of downtown from the bus, do the museums, etc. I'm just not sure about the details of the R-Line schedules.

If you're not opposed to sugar overload, Krispy Kreme is another fun place - go to the "original" store on the corner of Peace & ? where you can watch the donuts being made.

Peace & Person. It's the first downtown Raleigh intersection I learned - for obvious reasons .
