I've heard Jbarra is good, as well as the place in Carrboro. The Raleigh Cary area us definitely not filled with endless options though. Most of what's offered as Mexican cuisine is terrible. I just don't understand why. Just ate at El Rodeo in downtown Raleigh. It's always busy. Being an optimistic, I ordered their chilequilas (spelling?). I love that dish normally. But El Rodeos version: Ughhhhhhhh. Tasted like blended baby poo.

I'll echo the Chubby's, Fiesta Grill, and Tacos Mexico recommendations. Sol Azteca in Morrisville has some very good dishes. Dos Perros in Durham is wonderful (a traditional, but more upscale dining experience).

I second Las Margaritas on Six Forks/Sawmill in Raleigh. Had dinner there tonight, very good.

Cosumel's in North Raleigh on Creedmoor Road. I could make a meal off their chips and salsa!

We usually go here also. I like the one in Apex rather than the one in Fuquay.

You are correct.... let the heckling begin!!!!

I love Chubby's Taco's but I find often times their beans have too much salt for me. I'm more of a Baja / Fresh Mex gal than typical lardy, salty mex. But Chubby's is thus far my fav. I haven't tried the Carrborro place.... I hear it's good.

Personally, I've learned to make my favorite Mex dishes at home. My salsa beats the pants off anything thing I've had locally. Chips are another story. I can't do chips worth a darn.... still having to buy those. FWIW, in my pursuit for my favorite foods from my old city, I've become so frustrated here, that I've found it's just easier to learn to make it yourself than drive 45 mins to get to the one place that is kind of close.

BTW, there are a ton of older threads about good mex food in the area. You might find more info in those. Good luck on your quest!
