Had lunch again today at Tacos Mexico. I ordered the chilaquiles with the salsa verde and two fried eggs on top - so good! The salsa was nice and spicy, so much flavor. My husband got the Torta Especial, which was about the size of a cat. He loved.

Dos Taquitos on Creedmore Rd in Raleigh is the best! The place is fun and quirky and the food is always great. Dos Taquitos Centro in downtown Raleigh isn't nearly as good as the original though. I live on the southern side of Wake Co, and I make a special trip up there for it.

for california mexican try Cafe Capistrano. Their chile relleno is excellent. They are on durant road and kids dine free on monday night. For more local mexican, my husband likes las brazas on smithfield road in knightdale.

not sure what happened to El Fogon in knightdale. There is another El Fogon in Zebulon that is still open and quite busy.

Our favorite for authentic mexican is Birrieria Jellisco, in the Walmart S.C off Wake Forest Road. Here is a local food blog entry about it. Birria, I Just Ate at a Place with Birria* VarmintBites. Beware it is authentic Mexican and you may be the only gringo in there. It is not Tex-Mex, like Dos Taquitos or the awful El Rodeo. We love to al pastor and the birrieria.

If you want tex-mex, but upscale, I recommend either Jibarra or Dos Taquitos Centro (the downtown location) which has some amazing food at night (lunch tends to be simpler, but still yummy).
