I have an old painting of a water mill somewhere in Wake County, but I cannot find out which mill the painting is of. I would love to know the history behind it if anyone knows where it might be. I know the picture is of a mill that exists or existed in the Wake County or surrounding areas. Thanks for the help!

Can't tell by the pic but the only mill I can think of is Yates Mill in Raleigh. You could do some research on that.

Why is the image file name Yates Mill if you don't know the name of the mill?

Umm. Doesn't the file name say "yatesmill043.jpg"

There's something strange about the painting though, and I'm wondering if the artist took some liberties. Here are a bunch of photos taken by Citi-Data folks so you can see what it looks like nowadays.

Some photos of Yates Mill Pond

I used to live within walking distance of Yates Mill (well, walking distance for people who walk a mile or two a day!)...it's beautiful. But that doesn't look like it. That picture shows it as painted white...when it's actually all natural wood. Unless someone at one point stripped it; which I guess is possible.
